Van Wagenen Fellowship
2014 Application Available Fall 2012

The Van Wagenen Fellowship provides residents graduating from a North American training site with private, non-governmental funding, to be used toward overseas travel for medical enrichment prior to beginning an academic career in neurological surgery. It has served as the foundation for the careers of many of neurosurgery’s great educators, whom today hold academic leadership positions at some of the most prestigious neurosurgery programs. Please be aware that the application cycle has been revised to allow all applicants to be notified of results earlier and for additional planning.
NREF Post-Residency Clinical Fellowships
Applications Available Summer 2012

The NREF strongly encourages institutions to apply for funding for clinical neurosurgical fellowship with a focus on spine surgery, endovascular neurosurgery, general neurosurgery, neurocritical care, neurosurgical oncology, other cerebrovascular – related fellowships, pediatric neurosurgery, peripheral nerve surgery and stereotactic/functional neurosurgery.

Thanks to the generous support of the NREF Annual Fundraising Campaign by AANS members, academic departments, hospitals, medical groups, corporate contributors and the general public, the NREF awards research grants focusing on critical research projects in the field of neurological surgery.
Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship program
2013 Application Available Fall 2012

The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), through the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation, is pleased to offer the Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship (MSSRF) program. The fellowship is open to medical students in the United States or Canada who have completed one or two years of medical school and wish to spend a summer working in a neurosurgical laboratory. Applicants must be mentored by a neurosurgical investigator who is a member of the AANS and will sponsor the student.
